Family Stories

Suzanne Walker – The many Presidents I worked for and met during my Military Career was Jimmy Carter. I met President Jimmy Carter in 1996 and I was at the Olympics Opening Ceremony in Atlanta. I was the aide-de-camp to the Secretary of the Army. We were in a reception room where the Secretary and other members of President Clinton’s cabinet were meeting former Olympians and dignitaries. President Carter and his wife were there and walked past me as I was standing against the wall out of the way (like a good aide. )He said hello to me as he passed and asked my name! I was so excited. As everyone moved to their seats, I was standing with a group of other aides and I elbowed the man next to me and said (in a very excited voice) “I just met Jimmy Carter!” And the man turned around and it WAS President Carter! He laughed and said “ Yes! Very nice to meet you!” I was so embarrassed but he was very nice and it was really a good laugh! Wish I had a picture of that night!!!😌

R.I.P. President Carter. I will remember him as a very nice man.
